I've been grappling with the idea of faith lately, and trying to think of a way to approach it that's not "blind". I think the (sort of) solution I've come to applies to pain. For me, faith is not far from a commitment. Not a commitment to something worldly or societal, but commitment to this life, to existing with a turned on spirit, always trying to light the fire, trying not to go through the motions (or however you like to put it). It can be easy to commit when life is going well and pain-free, but the challenge is to commit when things are gloomy (physically and spiritually). My suggestion is to have faith, faith that the pain will go away after death, but also a will to live, to postpone eternity for just another day, just another moment.
