Master Teachers

Alan Watts: A beatnik turned hippy icon who introduced Eastern philosophy to hordes of Baby Boomers and Internet junkies alike.  His resurgence on the web, particularly via Youtube, has been something of a phenomenon.  Posthumously he has somehow, someway found a way to inject his ingenious perspective into the zeitgeist.  If I had to pinpoint one soul who has created the most impact in my adulthood spiritual rebirth, it would be Alan Watts.

Terence McKenna: Terence was a true and thorough psychonaut.  Surely he valued the experience of daily meditation, but he most certainly penciled Mr. Meditation in as second string behind the much faster and more direct experience of getting wasted (his words).  Five grams of magic mushrooms will do.  He was no stranger to DMT either.

D.T. Suzuki: If Alan Watts brought the entire fruit basket of Eastern philosophy to the West, then Suzuki surely brought the red and shiny apple known as Zen.  His clips are less prevalent but his printed word has been immortalized in both print and eBook format here on web.  Respect.

Ram Dass: Formerly Richard Alpert (no, not the guy with eyeliner from Lost), his zest for life and the twinkle in his eye are most certainly not after-effects of the LSD he dropped with Tim Leary.  This man went to India an intellectual who enjoyed drugs and returned a guru whose ideas were better than them.  Never have I ever been able to see someone living here and now more than this man.

Osho: Don't confuse his Oregon compound and the violence that ensued for lack of good advice.  This guru, despite also his pension for the extravagant watch or luxury car, seems to have a keen ability to let go of the things that consume us the most -- our emotions.  His questions are poignant and his students are grateful and receptive.  A pure joy.
